The ground beneath them rumbled, soil dancing unnaturally, as they tore away.
The two of them were so set upon getting as far away from it as possible, they had little appreciation for the birds shrieking above them, collecting as one to navigate through the rapidly darkening sky above.
They reached a small opening in the forest and slowed, unable to sprint further, and fell to their backs, panting heavily.
Staring up, they watched with increasing astonishment at it, rising eerily smoothly against the destruction its departure had caused.
Whatever it was that they had touched… it had started something.
