Jenny lunged at him, a deceptive trickle of tears falling with pristine timing as she jumped into the inviting arms of her husband.
He had no idea what had driven her sudden outburst of emotion, and it was essential he never knew. This time her ritual had not gone to plan; she had been seen.
"What happened?" he asked, his voice etched with concern.
She did not answer, but instead clutched him with added intensity, and noticed the incriminating blood stain on her sleeve.
Sirens slowly began to sound in the distance, and her heartbeat intensified. The game was on.
